fledermäuse in rotFor the first time ever Cardboard Citizens will be live streaming one of their shows via their website on Tuesday 2nd June. Audiences will also be invited to participate in the Forum Theatre section via Twitter and through a chat room on the website.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in a forum digitally, and possibly see some of your ideas played out on stage in front of both a live and a ‘digital’ audience.

The show will run as in the usual Forum Theatre format, where we will be presenting our new production, Benefit written by Sarah Woods and directed by Adrian Jackson.

The digital feedback will be interwoven into the forum discussion, meaning that an audience member watching in another country could see their ideas played out by actors on stage in Doncaster in the UK.

You can watch the show and post your comments on the Cardboard Citizens website, http://cardboardcitizens.org.uk/events/live-streaming-benefit-sarah-woods

The show starts at 7:45pm GMT but we recommend tuning in a little earlier to get set up and check sound levels. There will be a trailer of Benefit on a loop for you to test.

Audiences can also follow the conversation via twitter using the hashtag #BenefitPlayLive.collective-Ritual

Benefit explores the lives of three ‘job-seekers’ and the pressures their status puts on them and those around them. English graduate Rosa is haunted by the history of her Chilean family, Craig suffers from a sex addiction that is destroying his relationship, and Patrick is rendered near-speechless by mental health issues and inability to understand the world into which he is thrust seeking support. By telling the stories of these individual true-to-life struggles, Benefit looks at the impact of austerity and asks how we can all best deal with the world we are now in.

The show has been touring the country since March, visiting theatres, hostels, prisons and day centres from Canterbury to Glasgow to Belfast to Aberystwyth. We want to show everyone the play that audiences are calling „absolutely spellbinding…powerful and amazing“, The Guardian featured as Critics Choice, and that The Stage gave four stars.

farbschwarmWant to watch the show with a group? Here’s how:

  1. Link a laptop or computer up to a projector if you have one.
  2. Alternatively, link your laptop to a TV via a HDMI cable.
  3. Or gather a group around your PC or tablet.

Your group can then get involved and participate in the forum theatre piece via Twitter (using the hashtag #BenefitPlayLive) and through a chat room on the website.

Visit here at 7.30pm and you should see the trailer rolling, so you can check sound levels – the show will start at 7.45pm: http://cardboardcitizens.org.uk/events/live-streaming-benefit-sarah-woods.

PLEASE DO LET US KNOW IF YOU WILL BE DOING A SCREENING – WE’D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE SETTING UP.
